3 Years?? How Did That Happen?

Well it is that time of year that we celebrate our Anniversary. 

It has been 3 years since Moderna Cannabis Society opened for business and what a ride it has been.   No one could have predicted what our first couple of years would have entailed, but lucky for us, even a pandemic didn’t slow us down.

Thank you for being such Loyal Customers!

First off, thank you all for being such loyal customers.  We have gotten to know you by name…well or at least your dog’s name.   We chat like we are old friends and share stories and hardships.  We offer recommendations to get you through the tough times and celebrate the wins.   We worry when you disappear unexpectedly (you know who you are…check your text messages), and we enjoy it when we see you on your regular days.    Without all of you, we wouldn’t be celebrating this big day!  You are our part of our ever growing cannabis family and we couldn’t be happier.

The industry has had a lot of ups and downs and interesting challenges and there will surely be a lot more.  Thank goodness for a staff that shows up every day with a smile on their face ready to tackle whatever the cannabis industry throws at us.   They are dedicated and hard working and have become a little work family.   They are constantly learning new things so they can help you find whatever you need.  It does involve a fair bit of homework, but no one complains if their homework is trying new products from the cannabis store.  I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as they enjoy seeing you, and your pups, every day…..have I mentioned we really like dogs here?

Look how far we have come.

Three years ago there were about 400 cannabis products available.  Today Alberta has 2692 listed products and there are so many more available across Canada that we have yet to have the privilege of trying here in Alberta.  We didn’t have edibles or vape products back then.  We had a handful of big suppliers and a few little craft ones sprinkled in.   Now there are so many and they change so fast it is hard to keep up with.   Long gone are the days where you basically smoked Blue Dream and Afghan Kush.  Now we are smoking Pineapple Express, Unicorn Poop and Lime Soda, to name a few.   We are eating chocolate, soft chews, pop rocks and hot sauce and drinking infused tea, coffee and soda. It is a fun time to be a cannabis consumer.

The product range will continue to grow as well.   We expect the edible market to have the most growth this year as new innovation hits stores…..I hear protein powder is coming soon.    We have our eye too on some fun new accessories that are sure to please the connoisseur in all of us.   

So, what’s next?

The cannabis industry is in a weird place right now.  The growth has exceeded what the industry can handle and for some it has meant selling and moving on, and for others, attempting total domination of the industry.    We sit quietly in our little store, watching it all unfold and wonder too what it will look like at this time next year.  The battle of the chain stores is hitting a peak and I am sure this time next year there will be less of them.  We root for all the independent stores like us who are finding their way and developing a niche in the market for the customers who want more from their cannabis store than cheap weed and questionable service.   As we navigate the inevitable recession, we have one goal… keep our loyal customers happy and encourage new customers to branch out from the ordinary and seek something just a little bit different.   In all that we do this year it is more important than ever to support local businesses.  It isn’t always easy, but every time you spend money in a local store you are keeping your friends, family and neighbors employed.
